John Akeman died ca. 1838-1839 in Bath County. His daughter Mary "Polly" married John Hoover.

Reply by Del Rae <no email address> Post 15 Mar 2011:
I think he had a grandson, Samuel grose - listed in his will probated on may 26, 1838 in Bath County. His other grandchildren are Katherine and John Hoover and he lists his son-in=law as John Hoover and his sons as George, John and Jacob - is this the correct John Akeman? I am wondering because it actually looks like Akeman is a middle name and the last name is blank (x).

My gggggrandfather George Ackman/Akeman was born in Bath County, VA in the early 1790s and my gggggrandmother was also born in Bath County, VA. in 1793 here name was Jane McMillin. You show Polly Akeman being born in Bath County in 1793. Could they be brother and sister?? Only two Akemans show up on the Census during this time and that being John Akeman Jr. and Sr. Is John Jr. the brother of George? Thanks, Ed Akeman

I think that Polly Akeman was my gggggrandfathers sister.

i am also an Akeman descendant and related to you but trying to figure out exactly how. My family is Phoebe Akeman, b: 1804 Bath Co VA & she marr: Jared Francis Williams. I see your George Akeman who married Jane McMillin on 8-23-1824 Bath Co Va. I do have a John Akeman Jr who marr: Mary Polly Millhollin also. I am thinking that my Phoebe & your George are brother & sister. A George Akeman did sign the marriage bond for Phoebe & Jared in 1825 Bath Co VA. I think maybe Phoebe’s father & George’s is William Akeman b: 1783 Bath Co VA. But I do not have a wife’s name for him. And then by dates perhaps William’s father was John Ackman/Eckman (later spelled as Askeman) & he is b: 1755 Frederick Co MD & came to Bath Co VA in 1800 & John d: in 1838. I do have a George A. Ackeman who married Mary Ann Patton Bath Co VA 11-22-1827. And also a Jacob Ackeman who marr: Patsy Watson 12-13-1832 Bath Co VA. And a Polly Ackeman who marr: John Hoover on 6-9-1818 Bath Co VA. There is another Phebe Ackeman b: 1809 Bath Co VA but she marr: a Butler Stonestreet & then Butler also marr: Mary Williams who is a sister to my Jared Williams. Well just trying in some way to sort thru the Akemans from Bath Co VA & any help you may have will be great to have. There is a Phebe Ackeman b: 1778 who marr: Richard Mays on 8-1-1799 Bath Co VA but not sure who she is exactly either. The John Ackeman (Ackman/Eckman) from MD had a wife, Katherine??. Please be in touch to share family if you wish.
